French Doors

This option offers fantastic flexibility and maximises the opening area into a garden or terrace. It’s worth noting that with French Doors there’s no need to bend down or reach for the sky when trying to open the second door.

You can operate both sets of door locks (the master and the slave) by a pair of matching handles and one key will work both mechanisms. If your doors do open out you should consider the addition of a restrictor to prevent them being damaged when blown back by the wind. For extra security on hinged doors we can add ‘hinge bolts’ that are fixed to the hinge side of the door and penetrate into the reinforcing when closed. In the unlikely event that an unwelcome visitor attacks the hinges rather than the locks these devices prevent the door from being opened. This is particularly valuable on open-out doors as the hinges are on the outside. We can even help you decide on the most suitable threshold. Depending on the site survey we may be able to fit a low PVCu threshold or perhaps a low aluminium profile (vital if wheelchair access is required to comply with building regulations).

They can be used to replicate any popular style of timber window with sashes that can open from the side or bottom.

Tilt & Turn Windows

allow the largest possible glass area. They are Characterised by the fact that they open into your house. This can be useful if you have limited clearance outside & they are very easy to keep clean as even the outside of the glass can be washed easily from inside the room. Using a clever hinge & locking arrangement you can either open the top of the sash at a fixed angle to allow ventilation or you can open it from the side giving maximum possible aperture to let in as much fresh air & light as possible. Be careful to consider your available space inside, as a big tilt & turn window can take up quite a bit of space in a small room.

Hinges

Casement windows come with a special type of hinge referred to as a ‘friction stay’. These clever hinges allow you to effortlessly open the window to your chosen position, once there the geometry of the hinge and friction combine to keep it in place without fear of it being caught by the wind and blown back.

There are certain legal requirements relating to your safety in the unlikely event of a fire and we may have to fit special hinges in some rooms to allow the window to be used as an emergency exit. This requirement may also mean that some windows have to be a minimum width, it is our responsibility to advise you where this is the case. You may want to have our ‘easy clean’ hinge fitted. This clever option allows you to slide the open window to one side so that you can safely clean the outside withoutclimbing a ladder. These have the added benefit of opening to almost 90o giving an unobstructed view from your room.

There are also restrictor hinges that may be appropriate for a child’s room or a low window where there could be a risk of someone falling.

Handles

Once your new windows are installed, the component you will touch and operate most often will be the will want them to be pleasing to both touch and look at, they must compliment the feel of your décor and above all they must function perfectly time after time. We believe that the window handles offer the very best combination of functionality and aesthetic appeal that when gripping the handle your knuckles are a safe distance from the frame. When moved to the closed position it automatically locks into place against a positive stop, yet is simply released by the press of a button when you need to open the window. For extra security our handles can be deadlocked with a key.

Available in white, black, gold, polished chrome or satin chrome all finishes meet the corrosion resistance requirements of BS EN 1670:1988.

Vertical Sliders

Due to the characteristics of the existing primary window, the Balanced vertical Slider is the most complex type of secondary glazing system. It is applied generally to older properties. It is particularly suited to the refurbishment and upgrade of the nation’s architectural heritage.

How it works

The individually pre-tensioned spiral spring balances control the motion of the sash, enabling infinite vertical positioning. This design provides ease of movement and has been specially developed to withstand decades of wear and tear. Tilt in versions can be pivoted through almost 180 degrees. This is especially useful for cleaning

but just as importantly can be crucial when considering fire escape requirements. All variations of Granada’s exclusive secondary glazing styles are completely compatible. Each type can be easily used with another no matter what the application may be.

The Product

When it comes to providing an unobtrusive secondary glazing system, the hinged unit provides the most appropriate solution, since there are no transoms or mullions to spoil the view. The reduction in noise, and improvement in thermal insulation, greatly enhances both the living and working environments.

How it works

The hinged unit can be manufactured in two main types. The single hinged unit opens on a restricting friction stay. Where the application is on a larger scale, the friction stay is replaced with a butt hinge. We have developed and rigorously tested a variety of butt hinges for differing leaf weights. The double hinged unit has been primarily designed to fit in front of larger Windows or French Doors, utilising the same range of hinges.

Lift Outs

The Product
Economically, the Lift Out is the most cost effective type of secondary glazing available. Its most common application is where limited access to the primary window is required, for example a window which has been installed with the sole object of providing light to a room.

How it works

As well as economical, the Lift Out is also the most basic form of secondary glazing. As its name implies, it simply lifts out of a secured channel. For practical purposes, it is advised that the sash size be considered since the weight of glass must be of manageable proportions. Each sash is manufactured with double brush pile seal, further increasing the thermal and sound insulation properties

Much thought has gone into our new vertical sliding sash window to ensure that traditional style & character is retained. Not only do both our sashes slide up & down but both inwardly tilt for ease of cleaning & ventilation. The beautifully sculptured frame, bead & Georgian bar of the sash window fully integrates with any other product in our range ~ so you can mix & match styles throughout your home with confidence.

Sash Locks

Secure locking both sashes securely together, white furniture is fitted as standard. Gold, chrome and Satin chrome are optionally available.

Sash horns

Originally a Victorian innovation, and seen on many box sash windows, sash horns helped shed water from the sash and covered the end grain of the wood preventing water penetration. On our PVCu windows they are purely decorative and add additional character and authentic charm.

Sash/Child Restrictors

Sash/Child restrictors are a way of limiting the opening of the window to about 100mm (4 inches). This means that you can enjoy good ventilation at all times while also enjoying peace of mind of security. On some upstairs windows these may be mandatory (please check with your local planning authority).

Lockable Sash Restrictors

If the bottom of the windows are close to the internal floor sash restrictors ensure the windows can’t be opened fully by accident and present a fall hazard. We offer two different types of restrictor either key lockable (shown left) or the angel vent (shown above), which is self resetting. As with all our vertical sliding sash hardware, the sash restrictors can be ordered in either White, Gold, Chrome or Satin chrome finish.

Tilt-in cleaning facility

A standard feature of our sliding sash windows is the tilt-in cleaning facility. Tilting both sashes by the means of a pivot bar, allows the window to tilt so that exterior glass can be cleaned from the inside. A soft damp cloth is all it takes to maintain the frame. Built in tilt restrictors ensure the tilt mechanism works smoothly and safely.

Night Vents

These are sometimes called Trickle Vents and provide ventilation in the sash. They are available in different capacities/sizes depending on the width of the window. 2000 & 4000 (habitable rooms require capacity of 8000).
